Woodturners,

We had a busy and productive meeting on January 15th at Rockler with record attendance. Larry Cook demonstrated lidded boxes. Next up is Rob McGrath demonstrating Pen Making Techniques on February 19th at Rockler.

If you haven’t been to a meeting, the monthly Wood Auction is quite a highlight. We regularly auction expensive pieces of wood that go for a few dollars. Last month there were two large pieces of purple heart that would have retailed for $100 that auctioned for $25. You can pick up cherry, maple, burls, and more. In January we had a guest bring a truckload of northern wood that we don’t usually see here. He donated all of the wood for the auction to support our club!

Challenge of the Month – Due February Meeting
Use any type of wood to make any size of turned spoon you can create.

Upcoming Activity – Art in Bloom at the Orlando Art Museum. The board is looking into renting a booth to set up member’s pieces for sale to the public. The set up will be April 9th, with the event on the 10, 11, 12 weekend. Options and costs are being researched. We may need shelves to borrow to display items. We will definitely need turned items to sell. While the Art Museum gets a 20% cut of sales, the remainder will be divided between the club and the maker, TBD. We are encouraging everyone to start now on creating small items for sale such as pens, vases, weed pots, and flowers. Larger, more expensive pieces can also be shown for sale if we have enough volunteers to staff the booth.

Ed DeMay is looking into obtaining new shirts due to requests from members. Reach out to Ed if you have any ideas on the type of shirt, logo on front pocket only, logo on front and back, logo on front pocket and new funny saying on the back? Ed Demay edwarddemay@gmail.com

We do have 7 2XL “Just One More Cut” t-shirts for a great deal of $10. See Wendy at the meeting if you’d like one.

Speaking of good deals, we will have some woodturner equipment for sale at the February meeting too. Items will be priced and on display. This is a result of a cleanout of club inventory that is no longer used. There will also be a Eiki EK-300 Series projector, like new, in the original box for sale, originally $3,000+, bids start at $75. Great for outside home movie nights!
